An Italian artist Vitaly Odintsov presented to the National Library of Belarus a portrait of Francysk Skaryna from leaf-gold on December 27.
Vitaly Odintsov, also known as Emmanuel Hendricks, was born and lived till 7 years in Zhlobin. Then he moved to Italy with his parents, there he received art education in the Academy of Fine Arts. Today Vitaly often visits his historical motherland and organizes exhibitions, which aim at popularization of art discoveries and maintenance of cultural relationships between Italy and Belarus.
Artist’s works were presented in the literary artistic project “Golden autographs in heaven” in October, 2016. A series of portraits dedicated to Soviet actors, film directors and poets was very popular among visitors of the Library. And it’s not occasional: a lively interest is caused by a unique author’s technique “leaf-gold on black plexiglass”. As a member of the Belarusian Union of Artists, deputy director of Gomel universal library n.a. V.I. Lenin Oleg Ananiev marked that portraits of Slavic writers, poets, cultural figures take a special place in young artist’s work.
A bright continuation of this series became a portrait of the Slavic humanist Francysk Skaryna. The author Vitaly Odintsov highlighted an important contribution of the enlightener to Belarusian culture, and shared impressions after an excursion around the Library.
The director of the National Library of Belarus Roman Motulsky thanked a young artist for a precious gift and assured that a gold portrait of Francysk Skaryna would become a worthy decoration of events in 2017 dedicated to the 500th anniversary of Belarusian book printing, and not only Belarusians but also foreigners would see it.
