On October 19 at the gallery Rakurs of the National Library of Belarus took place the event "Everliving jazz”.


A new joint project of the National Library of Belarus and the USA Embassy in the Republic of Belarus became a spectacular event for all who is in love with jazz, knows its history and is interested in this music.

As a part of the event, a book exhibition about the world of jazz runs at the National Library of Belarus. The exposition includes encyclopedias and dictionaries, autobiographies, bibliographies, vinyl disks and CDs, printed music and illustrations from the collections of the National Library of Belarus. Besides, the National Library of Belarus offers a poster exhibition dedicated to Louis Armstrong, the world-known king of jazz.

Within the framework of the event, the USA Embassy in the Republic of Belarus presented to the National Library of Belarus a certificate for acquisition of music databases.

Director of the National Library of Belarus Roman Motulsky, the USA chargé d’affaires pro tempore in Belarus Michael Scanlon,  head of the Gallery-Exhibition Deaprtment of the National Library of Belarus Fyodor Yastreb, musical critic and journalist Dmitry Podberezsky took part in the event.  

Guests of the evening could plunge into the world of jazz listening to the orchestra of Kopyl Children’s School of Arts (art director – Lev Konoplyanik) and young musicians from the music studio «Novy Mir» (The New World) at the Belarusian State University of Informatics and Radio Electronics (art director – Julia Novomir).

"Soldier's Fate": on the 100th anniversary of Vasil Bykov and the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from Nazi invaders

This year marks the 100th anniversary of the birth of the People's writer of Belarus, publicist and screenwriter Vasil Vladimirovich Bykov.
On this occasion, the National Library has prepared an anniversary exhibition "Soldier's fate", which highlights the great influence on the work of the Belarusian writer of his participation in the Great Patriotic War.
