Our Library has launched since September, 2016 “The Book Professors’ Club”. Children along with their parents came here monthly to learn about the variety of world and uniqueness of Belarusian book culture.


The sixth meeting of the club took place on February 26. It was dedicated to the first printer Francysk Skaryna’s activities.

Participants traveled with Francysk across the historic map of Europe of the 16 century and learned about the first printer’s life, activities and book heritage. Young professors did research, which let them not just check a scientific fact, but also discover it for themselves relying on historical documents. While studying an issue why Skaryna was called by scientists and writers in scientific, popular scientific and fiction literature Francysk or Francišak, children studies origins, the first printer’s editions. That’s why, the facsimile edition Book Heritage of Francysk Skaryna was used at the lesson. Children read extracts, where Skaryna wrote information about himself and signed his name. As a result, they were proud of reading texts dating the 16th century and doing research, and remembered this fact.

Work in small groups helps activate all participants, including those who are passive in a big group. Children in small groups created a portrait of Francysk Skaryna. The work resulted in a presentation and discussion of the results.

The uniqueness of such lessons in the Book Museum lies in the opportunity to study national book heritage with the help of a rich collection of book monuments of the Library. The book remains a source of an emotional reaction among a variety of methods of influence. The Museum exhibits Skaryna’s books, which were published in Prague in 1517 and which turn 500 years this year.

At the end of the lesson, children decorated and signed postcards. In this way they congratulated their parents on the 500th anniversary of Belarusian book printing. Parents will receive postcards by post.

On April 24, 2024, at the International Scientific and Practical Conference "Rumyantsev Readings-2024" in Moscow, Olga Polunchenko, chief bibliographer of the Department of reference and Information Services, presented a report "The role of Adam Shanyavsky in organizing the library fund of the Nesvizh County School (the last quarter of the XVIII century)."
