The 24th General Meeting of the members of the Eurasian Library Assembly (ELA) non-profit partnership, presidential elections were held on November 25.

Due to the expiration of the term of office, the resignation of the President of the Assembly, Alexander Visly, Deputy Director General of the Russian State Library, was accepted. The Meeting participants thanked Alexander Visly for his good work and cooperation.

According to the results of the voting, Roman Motulsky, General Director of the National Library of Belarus, was elected the new president of BAE.

Vadim Duda, General Director of the Russian State Library, and Umida Teshabaeva, Director of the A. Navoi National Library of Uzbekistan became Vice-Presidents.

Roman Motulsky thanked his colleagues for their trust and expressed confidence in the further mutually beneficial cooperation of partner libraries.

Also Roman Motulsky shared his vision of the problems of Model Recommendations on the establishment of unified approaches on the issue of legal deposit of printed publications in electronic form in the CIS member states, stressing that the adoption of Model Recommendations at the CIS level will significantly accelerate the optimization of the national legislative framework in this direction and will contribute to the creation of a unified informational space and the formation of national electronic libraries, new opportunities for the further development of interlibrary and interstate book exchange.

Roman Motulsky outlined the promising areas of cooperation between the ELA libraries for the period 2021–2022: model lawmaking for the unification of legislation relating to documentary heritage in the electronic environment; creation of a single space for scientific research; conducting exchange programs and professional development of library staff; development of common approaches and exchange of experience in the formation of full-text databases and electronic libraries and the creation of a single information space based on existing digital libraries; on the formation of resources of national libraries and problem-oriented databases; exchange of experience on the organization of user services in special conditions or special groups of users.

Roman Motulsky also suggested holding an online forum of the national libraries of the Commonwealth early next year, where participants would talk about the experience of organizing user service in a pandemic with a presentation of best practices for 2020.

Students of the Belarusian State Academy of Music visited the National library

On April 18, the students of the Belarusian State Academy of Music visited the National Library of Belarus as part of the environmental education and upbringing program. They got acquainted with the thematic book exhibition "Water is a wonderful gift of Nature" dedicated to World Water Day. The exposition is presented in the documents of international organizations reading room (room 207 g).
