On April 22, on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the Chernobyl accident, the opening of the exhibition "Chernobyl. Test of endurance” and the presentation of Denis Romaniuk’s album Chernobyl will be held in the National Library.
The exhibition "Chernobyl. Test of endurance" will present documents describing the actions of the state authorities of Belarus to overcome the consequences of the Chernobyl accident. First of all, this is documentary material on social protection of the population against the threat of radiation: the resettlement of the 30-kilometer zone, the construction of housing for the displaced, providing people with "clean" food, medical assistance.
Especially valuable are the materials of the Russian State Archive of Contemporary History (RGANI). For the first time, Belarusian public will see the minutes of the Politburo meeting revealing its reaction to the Chernobyl accident, the correspondence of Mikhail Gorbachev and Ronald Reagan on the subject, and messages of heads of foreign states about the accident.
In addition to archival documents and photographs, the exhibition includes scientific, popular science, production and practical, educational and reference books, as well as literature, exhibition catalogs and photo albums from the collections of the National Library, which reflect the Chernobyl tragedy.
The photo album of Denis Romaniuk Chernobyl objectively informs about the disaster itself, its environmental, cultural and human consequences. This book is a memory for those who experienced the trouble on themselves, the history and instruction for the whole world.
The event starts at 14.00 in the gallery “Labyrinth” (on the 3rd floor).
