The Director of the National Library of Belarus Roman Motulsky participated in the round table "Belarusian literature in Russia: today and tomorrow” which was held on 2 June, 2016, in Moscow
The round table took place in the Business and culture complex of the Embassy of Belarus to Russia. Speaking at the event, the Minister of Information of Belarus Lilia Ananich emphasized that the meeting was timed to the participation of Belarusian publishers in the book festival “Red Square” in Moscow scheduled for 3–6 June.
The special representative of the President of Russia for international cultural cooperation Mikhail Shvydkoy made a suggestion that a program of the Union State should be developed to promote the cooperation between publishers and booksellers of Belarus and Russia.
The Chief Executive of the International fund of humanitarian cooperation of the CIS member states Anatoly Iksanov announced that next year a series of books by Belarusian authors would be published and handed to libraries of the CIS member countries.
Participants discussed the role of international cooperation for mutual enrichment of national literatures and strengthening of literary ties to respond to challenges of today.
A particular theme of the meeting was the preparations to the forthcoming 500th anniversary of Belarusian book printing which will be observed in 2017. Participants considered the development of joint Belarusian and Russian publishing projects times to the anniversary date. During the press-presentation “Skoriniana: the 500th anniversary of Belarusian book printing” Roman Motulsky told about the events scheduled by the National Library of Belarus for the anniversary year.
