The All-Russian Library Congress: the 24th Annual Conference of the Russian Library Association “The Concept of Development and Strategic Tasks of Librarianship in Russia” took place on May 11–17.
The event was held in the city of Tula, the 2019 library capital of Russia. The congress united more than one thousand participants – representatives of government bodies, libraries, museums, archives, research organizations, educational institutions, as well as manufacturers of information products from Russia, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and the Czech Republic.
The Republic of Belarus was represented by head of the Library Science Research Department of the National Library of Belarus Marina Pshibytko and director of Gomel Regional Universal Library named after Lenin Marina Rafeeva.
As part of the congress, more than 50 events of various formats and themes were organized. The round table on “The library as a public intellectual environment and a platform for intercultural communication. World practice” aroused a special interest. During the event, Marina Przybytko introduced the attendees to the organization of library services in the Republic of Belarus, highlighting the bright projects carried out in our country by libraries of various departments.
At the discussion forum “Library Associations of the World”, representatives of the CIS countries proposed the results of a SWOT analysis of the activities of their associations and outlined the prospects for their development. The Belarusian Library Association was represented by Marina Rafeeva.
Summing up the conference, representatives of the CIS countries signed the “Tula Declaration”, which lists the mission, purpose and objectives of the library associations of the world.
