November 21, 2019. Tatyana Konstantinova, ethnomusicologist at the Center for Studies of Belarusian Culture, Language and Literature of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, gave a public lecture on Belarusian Christmas Rites and Songs in the Fall.
The musicologist spoke about the peculiarities of autumn ceremonies in different parts of Belarus. Using archival and expeditionary audio recordings, she revealed the styles, themes and regional features of Belarusian folk songs. The authentic performance made a great impression on the listeners, who appreciated the originality of tunes and genres.
At the end of the lecture, the documentary film Beer Fest was shown. An authentic folklore group from the village of Osovets, Belynichi District, Mogilev Region, performs Belarusian songs and folk dances, and shares the secrets of making the hop-drink.
