On February 9th, 2017, a round table "Belarus – Britain. The possibilities for publishing business” was held as part of the XXIV Minsk International Book Fair.
The event was organized by the Embassy of Great Britain, which is the honorary guest of the forum. Ambassador of Her Majesty, Mrs. Fionna Gibb and First Deputy Minister of Information of the Republic of Belarus Igor Lutsky addressed welcoming speeches to the participants.
The roundtable "Belarus – Britain. The possibilities for publishing business" gathered the representatives of the UK Publishers Association, the Ministry of Education of Belarus and the Customs Committee, as well as leading experts and heads of public and private publishers, bookstores of Belarus, representatives of the National Book Chamber of Belarus and the National Library of Belarus.
The event attendees considered the prospects and complexity of long-term and mutually beneficial cooperation, issues of translation of English literature into Belarusian and Russian languages and its promotion in Belarus, as well as promotion of Belarusian and British publishers in the European space.
The National Library of Belarus was represented by deputy director for information resources Tatyana Kuzminich and chief librarian of the corporate interaction department Nadiezhda Radyuk. They made a report and presentation on electronic information resources of the UK’s leading publishing houses available in the National Library and the opportunities for their distribution in other Belarusian libraries and information centers.
