The National Library of Belarus has received as a gift books from the Ministry of Heritage and Culture of the Sultanate of Oman. The handing-over ceremony took place on September 19.
On September 17–21, the official delegation of the Sultanate of Oman, headed by the Chairman of the National Committee of Archives and Documentation of the Sultanate of Oman, Hamad Al Davayani, are on an official visit to Minsk. The guests arrived at the National Library with a special mission.
The representatives of the Sultanate have donated to the library about 500 publications in Arabic and English: books about history, religion, politics; travel photo albums; materials about the cultural heritage and other areas of life in Oman. The publications will be useful to scientists whose research is related to Asia Minor, as well as to anyone who wants to learn more about the country.
Director of the Department of Archives and Record Keeping of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Belarus Victor Kurash and Chairman of the National Committee of Archives and Documentation of the Sultanate of Oman Hamad Al Davayani spoke at the event.
Director of the National Library of Belarus Roman Motulsky thanked for the donation to the “diamond of knowledge” and presented to the representatives of Oman the facsimile edition Francysk Skaryna's Book Heritage. The collection of books, consisting of 20 volumes, was published by the National Library of Belarus with the support of the BelVEB Bank in 2017 on the occasion of the 500th anniversary of Belarusian book-printing.
Representatives of Oman first visited the main book depository of Belarus back in 2007. Since then, a number of visits, excursions and art projects have taken place. Previously, the library received a set of books about the history, culture and traditions of the Sultanate during an art exhibition titled "Oman Calls."
