The event on the occasion of the International Mother Language Day was dedicated to the Year of Native Land and took part at the National Library of Belarus on February 21.
The event was attended by Mr Andrei Dapkyunas, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus, as well as by heads and representatives of diplomatic missions, members of the National Commission of the Republic of Belarus for UNESCO.
“We work in different countries, travel the world, but still are connected with our native land” – emphasized Mr Roman Motulsky, the Director General of the National Library of Belarus, in his speech of welcome. He greeted the participants and read the lines from the poem Mother's Language (Matchina Mova) by the Belarusian poet Ales Bachylo.
The representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited in Belarus read excerpts from the works about the homeland by their national authors. English, Italian, Latvian, Lithuanian, Polish, Russian, Slovak, Ukrainian, Finnish, Japanese and other languages of the world have sounded there. A part of the event was the open show of original and translated works, selected by the representatives of the diplomatic missions. It was possible because of rich book collections of the Diamond of Knowledge.
The National Library prepared a photo exhibition Belarus: Beautiful Moments, especially for the event. The exhibition consists of 20 photographs that reflect the symbols, nature, culture of our country. During 2020, the exhibition will be exhibited in different countries in Europe.
The collection of Belarusian poetry in the English and Belarusian languages “Poetic Treasure from Belarus. Celebration of the life and work of Vera Rich" was presented at the event. The collection was released on the initiative of the Embassy of Belarus in Great Britain. A copy of the book was presented to all guests as a gift.
MFA of Belarus and Viber showed the collection of stickers in the Belarusian language, the collection was prepared on occasion of the International Mother Language Day.
A1 company held a photo presentation of the MovA1 project to popularize the Belarusian language through art installations in the form of the word “мова” (language) which will be installed in the regional centers of Belarus this April and can be used as photo zones, recreation areas, and also to connect to free Wi-Fi from A1.
There was an opportunity to participate in a workshop on string art, a graphic technique that allows You to make an image on cardboard using threads and sticks-nails. Everyone could make a souvenir with the Belarusian symbols in memory of the event.
Those wishing to participate in the interaction could choose a word in English and correctly compare it with the Belarusian ornament, the meaning of which had to be guessed.
The folklore band Gramnitsy was playing at the event.
