On June 19, the National Library hosted a meeting with the known writer, Anatoly Butevich, timed to his 70th anniversary.

Anatoly Butevich is a remarkably talented person, public figure, educator and local historian, who devotes all his inexhaustible energy to the history and culture of Belarus. An insatiable interest in the traditions, history, famous names and figures of the homeland has inspired the talented writer to many fascinating stories, which are warmly met by the audience.

During a long career, he has carried out a number of cultural projects and initiatives. Anatoly Butevich worked at newspapers and publishing houses and held leading positions at the Belarusian Telegraph Agency, newspaper “Chyrvonaya zmena”, publishing house “Mastatskaya litaratura”. He also was the Minister of Information (1992–1994) and Minister of Culture and Press of the Republic of Belarus (1994–1996).

Two decades ago, Anatoly Butevich found another vector in the creative activity, starting to write for children. His writing teaches the younger generation to love the homeland nature and admire the beauty of the Belarusian language. The author willingly meets with schoolchildren, telling them about the wonders of Belarus and the history of our homeland.

Zygmund Valevach, Deputy Chairman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus, Alexander Yatsko, Deputy Minister of Culture of the Republic of Belarus, Pavel Lyogkiy, First Deputy Minister of Information of the Republic of Belarus, Roman Motulsky, Director of the National Library of Belarus, Tadeusz Struzhetsky, Chairman of the Belarusian Cultural Foundation, Vladimir Gilep, the editor-in-chief of “Krajaznauchaja” newspaper, , the leaders of the delegation of the Nesvizh district, the republican institutions and organizations, expressed warm congratulations to the anniversary celebrant.

The musical group "Brevis" created a holiday atmosphere during the evening. At an exhibition-viewing, prepared by the National Library, the guests could familiarize themselves with the diversity of Anatoly Butevich’s talent.

They got acquainted with the thematic book exhibition "Water is a wonderful gift of Nature" dedicated to World Water Day. The exposition is presented in the documents of international organizations reading room (room 207 g).

Every week from January to August 2024, the portal of the National Library publishes materials from newspapers of Soviet Belarus in 1944, reflecting the chronicle of news and events of that time.
