On April 14, 2009, in the framework of the opening of an exhibition of painting and graphics “ALFABET” in Museum of the Modern Fine Art (Minsk) a new edition of the book by Mikola Gussovsky “The Song of the Bison” was presented to National Library of Belarus.
Thus the Library received a unique document. This is a joint project of Belarusian artist Yuriy Yakovenko and Italian publisher Juliano Yakamuchi.
“The Song of the Bison” by Mikola Gussovsky was written at the instance of Pope Leo Х but had never been published in Italy. Our contemporaries have managed to realize the idea of Mikola Gussovsky. A new edition of “The Song of the Bison” was published in Italian town San Benedetto del Tronto.
Yuriy Yakovenko and Juliano Yakamuchi created a real masterpiece: the book is printed on hand-made paper with rough, ragged edges imitating deckle-edged books made by medieval craftspeople. Illustrations in Renaissance were performed specially for this edition. The book cover is made of achromatic goat parchment.
150 copies of the book were printed. The authors presented a few books to different organizations. One of them was presented to Pope Benedict XVI, other one was offered to National Library of Belarus; one more book is to be presented to the Academy of Arts. Copper plates which artist Yuriy Yakovenko used while printing engravings for the book are to be handed to Historical Archaeological Museum in Grodno (Belarus).
