On September 15th, in a ceremonial setting, the 9th International Congress "The Library is a Phenomenon of Culture," devoted to the 100th anniversary of the National Library of Belarus, was launched.
The occasion was inaugurated by Aksana Knizhnikava, director general of the Belarusian National Library. Speeches of welcome were made by: Sergei Sarakach, deputy minister of culture of the Republic of Belarus; Vasyli Hurski, leading academic secretary of the National academy of sciences of Belarus; Vadim Duda, director general of the Russian state library, president of non-profit partnership “Eurasian library assembly”; Yuri Nosov, acting director general of the Boris Yeltsin presidential library; Vladimir Kulazhenko, director of the Fundamental library of the Belarussian state university, chair of the Council for public association “Belarussian library association”; Elena Korsakova, vice chancellor for research of the Belarussian state university of culture and art.
Barbara Lison, president of the International federation of library associations and institutions (IFLA), Xiong Yuanming, director of the National library of China, and Tan Huism, executive director of the Qatar National library, have sent their video messages, in which they warmly greeted the staff on the historic day and wished them continued prosperity, new initiatives, successes, and implementations.
At the plenary session, heads and authoritative specialists of the largest libraries, archives, museums, publishing houses, leading research organizations and educational institutions, manufacturers of software, hardware, information products and industrial equipment for libraries discuss the theme of the Congress of 2022: "Digital transformation of libraries: continuity and vector of development". In total, more than 450 delegates attended the Forum from Belarus and neighboring countries – Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.
The program of the first day includes breakout sessions, an exhibition of publishing products, electronic information resources and services, the 26th General Meeting of the non-profit partnership "Library Assembly of Eurasia", a solemn ceremony of awarding employees by ministries and departments dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the National Library of Belarus, awarding of the 30th Republican contest "Library is a core of National culture", the cancellation ceremony of the state postage stamp of the Republic of Belarus "100 years of the National Library of Belarus", a solemn meeting and a concert program.
On September 16, the Congress will host breakout sessions and a seminar "Extra-budgetary activities in the socio-cultural sphere, a discussion platform ‘Electronic resources: an open dialogue between libraries and publishers’".
