November 21, 2019. The 5th International Scientific and Practical Conference on Vitebsk Region was held at Vitebsk Regional Library. The event was timed to the Year of Native Land in Belarus.
The plenary session was focused on the first engraved illustrated Russian Bible, created by Vasily Koren, a native of Dubrovno . Speakers were president of the Academy of Folk Art Victor Penzin (Moscow); art historian and leading specialist of the Regional Folk Art Center of Vitebsk Lyudmila Vakar; deputy chairman of the Regional Council of Veterans, local historian Mikhail Leshchinsky. Also, a report was presented by Antonina Sakovich, (Moscow), an art historian and the author of the study on Vasily Koren’s Bible.
The conference featured sessions on local history, art history, history of literature and education, as well as roundtables and reports.
The National Library of Belarus was represented by chief bibliographer of the Bibliography Research Department Andrei Baranovsky, who read a report dedicated to the 85th anniversary of Belarusian artist and photographer Nicolay Sharai.
The conference proceedings will be published as a book.
