The 4th Forum of librarians of Belarus “Humanitarian and Educational Activities of Libraries in the Context of Human Values and the Belarusian Statehood” took place in the National Library of Belarus on September 15–17.


The Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Belarus, the Belarusian Library Association, the National Library of Belarus organized this event.

Nearly 250 delegates from all regions of Belarus – leading specialists of libraries, educational institutions, representatives of legislative and executive power participated in the Forum.

On 15 September, participants of the Forum were welcomed by the Deputy Minister of Culture of the Republic of Belarus Vasil Černik, the Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee on Education, Culture and Science of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus Natallia Kučynskaja, the Chairman of the Central Committee of the Belarusian Trade Union of Workers of Culture Natallia Aǔdzeeva, the Chairman of the Peršamajski region organization "Belaya Rus" Liudmila Matiuškova.

The speakers highlighted the particular importance of libraries in preserving and increasing of the cultural heritage of the Belarusian people, development of intellectual and spiritual potential of the nation, identified a consolidating role of the Belarusian Library Association in the implementation of the social mission.

The role of the state programs of the Republic of Belarus in the development of access to information through the library network was outlined, the problem of normative legal provision of the library branch was raised, corporate interaction of Belarusian libraries and professional education of librarians were examined at the plenary session, forecasts for the development of the industry were offered.

The meeting of four sections: "Information and Socio-Cultural Activities of Libraries in the Context of the Modern Age", "Library and Youth: Dimensions of Cooperation", "Software Engineering Activities of Libraries," "Experience, Achievements and New Horizons of Libraries – Winners of the Competition “Bіblіjateka - asiarodak nacyjanalnaj kultury”” took place on September 16.

There were more than 30 reports of specialists of different libraries, in which they presented their experience on the implementation of information technologies, socio-cultural mission of libraries, research activities, creation of information resources and organization of information and library services to diverse population groups.

The delegates worked out a resolution, in which they outlined measures to develop the sector after the analysis of the librarianship challenges.

Summing up the Forum on September 17, all participants unanimously expressed confidence, that the IV Forum of Librarians of Belarus became a new impetus for the search of innovative ideas for further development of creativity potential and social activity of librarians.

On April 8-12 the VII International Scientific and Practical Seminar "Document Restoration: Conservatism and Innovation - 2024" was held at the Russian State Library. This is the largest professional forum, the main task of which is to exchange experience and improve the skills of restorers and curators of museum, library and archival collections from different countries.
