The 6th International science and practical conference “Information Technologies and Law (Legal Informatization 2018)” took place in the library, on 17 May.
The international forum gathered together about 300 participants from nine countries in order to discuss the questions of the development of the legal sphere and exchange experience in providing access to legal information. During the conference, a plenary session and four breakout sessions were held.
The breakout session ”The Urgent Issues of the Development of Legal Access Centers at the Current Stage” was presided by the first deputy director of the National Library of Belarus, Elena Dolgopolova, and the deputy of the National Center of Legal Information, Victor Sharshun.
The session gathered together the professionals, who provide public access to legal information. The session was focused on the urgent issues of the public centers of legal information, based on public libraries.
To date, the country’s libraries host 603 public centers of legal information, i.e. every fourth library in Belarus provides access to legal information.
During the session, the specialists considered the prospects of the legal networks and their logistical support, statistics of their activity, the opportunities of free legal aid, and also the forms and methods of activity of the centers for legal education and legal culture of the population.
Reports were made by the head of the Official Document Department, Margarita Znak, Во время работы секции прозвучали доклады заведующей отделом обслуживания официальными документами Маргариты Знак (“Providing Access to Legal Information in the National Library of Belarus: Traditional and Virtual Components”) and the chief librarian of the department, Irina Kuketa (“The National Library of Belarus as a methodological Center for Public Centers of Legal Information”).
Their colleagues from the Russian Federation shared experience in the development and support of the legal network, and then presented to the National Library souvenirs from the Russian Academy of National Economy and Public Administration under the President of the Russian Federation.
The conference organizers are the National Center of Legal Information of the Republic of Belarus, the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Belarus, the Supreme Court of the Republic of Belarus, the Belarusian Republican Bar, the Belarusian Notarial Chamber and the National Library of Belarus.
