A thematic exhibition “World religions and law” is organized in the legal information reading room (207b) since May 29 till August 27.


An important condition of social life is maintenance of its integrity and stability. Religion is the force that unites people and possesses a huge pacifistic potential, but nevertheless, the number of religious conflicts proves that the religion can separate people. The problem of religious and state confessional relations has a great significance for states’ civilizational integrity preservation. In the modern world, religions have an important role in forming of the whole state legal system in many countries that have different religious systems.

Belarus is a multiconfessional country. A specific for our country tolerance and liberal attitude towards religion can be viewed as a historically long process. Tolerance as a quality of Belarusians’ spiritual culture had been forming during centuries of people’s life as a part of different multiconfessional state formation.

Nowadays different aspects of freedom of conscience and activities of religious organizations are reviewed and regulated by a significant number of normative acts – laws, codes, presidential decrees, etc.

Modern legislation of the Republic of Belarus aims at creation of the efficient system, which helps preserve social order in the country and observation of all constitutional rights and freedoms of citizens. Existing problems in the sphere of relations between the state and religious associations demand studying and resolution by bringing legislation into line with the development of social relations.

The exposition offers more than 100 documents: books, brochures, periodicals, abstracts of theses.

The exhibition is interesting to students, teachers, postgraduates, lawyers, political analysts, theologians, government employees, and everyone interested in problems of state confessional relations, activities of religious organizations and believers.

The exposition includes the following thematic sections:

  • Legal regulation of religious relations in the USSR;
  • Dynamics of state confessional relations development in the BSSR and post-Soviet Belarus;
  • Political legal state of the Russian Orthodox Church in the modern Russian Federation;
  • Legal systems of state confessional relations;
  • Religious grounds for criminal law prohibitions and punishment under Muslim law;
  • Influence of canon (Christian) law on the development of criminal law institutions;
  • Influence of religion on the institutes of family law;
  • Islam and human rights;
  • Influence of religious norms on the development of branches of law;
  • Interaction of law and religion.

Adam Shanyavsky and the library fund of the Nesvizh county school (the last quarter of the XVIII century)

On April 24, 2024, at the International Scientific and Practical Conference "Rumyantsev Readings-2024" in Moscow, Olga Polunchenko, chief bibliographer of the Department of reference and Information Services, presented a report "The role of Adam Shanyavsky in organizing the library fund of the Nesvizh County School (the last quarter of the XVIII century)."
