In the Visual Materials Reading Room (room 307), form June 10th to July 5th is open an anniversary exhibition “With love of the motherland” dedicated to the 80th birthday of Russian painter and graphic artist, and national artist of the USSR Ilya Glazunov.
Ilya Glazunov works in various genres of painting: landscape, portrait, interior. Also he is an illustrator of Russian classic literature and creator of series of drawings for the books by F.M. Dostoevsky, N.S. Leskov, A.A. Blok, I.A. Goncharov and others.
Ilya Glazunov is the author of a series of large canvas (1970–1990) that incorporate the artist’s concept of a distinctive historical way of Russia (“The Mystery of the XX Centitury”, “My Life”); theatre set designer (theatrical play “The Legend of the Invisible City of Kitezh and the Maiden Fevroniya” by N.A. Rimsky-Korsakov); restoration manager of the Grand Kremlin Palace.
The artist has contributed to the creation of the All-Russia Society for Protection of Monuments of History and Culture and the All-Union Museum of People’s Arts and Crafts, and the opening of the All-Russian Academy of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture at which he has become a rector.
The exhibition presents about 150 documents: albums, books, articles, postcards and reproductions of the works by the famous artist.
