From November 14th to December 10th, a book exhibition “With love of people” timed to the 100th anniversary of Belarusian writer Pavel Kovalyov runs in the Belarusian literature reading room (room 205).


The talented writer, teacher, honored cultural worker of Belarus Pavel Kovalyov came to the literature with a huge stock of most various observations and impressions of what he had seen and personally gone through; he had a life experience got during the Great Patriotic War. The themes “war and children”, “children and family” run through all his works. As a teacher he knew well children’s psychology and therefore he wrote a much for children, simply and sincerely. The writer depicted his ideas on children of war who had to become adults too early in the story Andrejka (1948) republished several times and translated into other languages.

The exposition will acquaint visitors with the writer’s works The Lost Diary (1954), My Friends Children (1959), Lyonka Grom (1961), The Little Man (1966) etc.

The author also wrote satirical and comic works. For a long time, he had been an editor-in-chief of the comic magazine Vozhyk (1955–1967), a number of topical and witty satirical works issued from his pen.

Pavel Kovalyov also wrote literary essays dedicated to eminent Belarusian writers Yakub Kolas, Yanka Kupala, Mikhas Lynkov, Ivan Melezh and others.

One of the exhibition sections is devoted to Pavel Kovalyov’s translation activity: he translated from Ukranian, English, Russian, Bulgarian and other languages.

A particular exhibition section presents the author’s works translated into other languages.

The last section presents publications about Pavel Kovalyov’s life and career from encyclopedias and periodicals.

The exposition includes about 140 documents.

"Soldier's Fate": on the 100th anniversary of Vasil Bykov and the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from Nazi invaders

This year marks the 100th anniversary of the birth of the People's writer of Belarus, publicist and screenwriter Vasil Vladimirovich Bykov.
On this occasion, the National Library has prepared an anniversary exhibition "Soldier's fate", which highlights the great influence on the work of the Belarusian writer of his participation in the Great Patriotic War.
