From 28 September to 16 October, in the Visual materials reading room (room 307) there runs an exhibition “Unforgettable are your lessons…” timed to the Teacher’s Day.

The Teacher’s Day, one of the most beloved holidays, is observed in Belarus on each first Sunday of October. This is a professional holiday of all teachers and educational employees; a day when the words of recognition and gratitude are said to teachers for their role and merits and a priceless contribution to the development of society.

Many connect the profession of a teacher with a very special vocation, and it is impossible to disagree with it. Considering all the complexities facing a teacher every day, we involuntarily ask ourselves a question how a teacher manages to cope with an enormous psychological loading remaining a wise and tolerant person, sensitive and sympathetic, confident and consistently leading the true educational line in our life and the life of our children.

In 1994, the UNESCO established the World Teacher’s Day which is observed annually on 5 October in more than one hundred countries.

The exhibition presents over 80 documents. The central place belongs to pedagogical literature. These are works of outstanding teachers V.A. Sukhomlinsky, K.D. Ushinsky, A.S. Makarenko, Y.A. Komensky etc. Among the exhibits there are K.V. Elnitsky's rare edition Russian Teachers of the Second Half of the 19th Century / Русские педагоги второй половины XIX-го столетия (1911, St. Petersburg), books of the series Pedagogics of the Childhood and also specialized periodicals of Belarusian publishing houses. The exposition also includes subject posters and postcards of the 1950s from the collections of the National Library of Belarus.

The exposition will be interesting to all readers.
