The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) is a specialized agency in the United Nations system that promotes peace, poverty eradication, sustainable development and intercultural dialogue through education, science, culture, communication and information.

UNESCO was created at the United Nations Conference held in November 1945 in London. On November 16, 1945. 37 states signed the Charter of a new international organization, which became the legal successor of the League of Nations International Committee on Intellectual Cooperation and its executive institution, the International Institute for Intellectual Cooperation. The Charter came into force on November 4, 1946.

There are 195 states members of the UNESCO. The organization includes more than 60 offices and divisions located in various parts of the world. The headquarters are in Paris, France. The General Director is Audrey Azoulay (France).

In the early years of its existence, UNESCO helped to rebuild schools, libraries and museums destroyed during World War II and acted as a kind of intellectual platform for the exchange of ideas and scientific knowledge. Since then, the organization has carried out a series of campaigns on equal access to education, biodiversity conservation, outstanding historical and cultural intangible and tangible monuments, freedom of the media and the right of people to access information, which has contributed to building knowledge societies.

For seventy-five years, UNESCO has been the embodiment of aspirations, hopes and a continuous struggle for a better life based on human dignity, mutual understanding and solidarity among people. Due to its high international prestige, UNESCO influences the formation of the state policy of the Member States and implements large-scale cultural, educational, information and scientific programs. All strategies, programs and activities of UNESCO are based on specific objectives of the international community - the internationally agreed Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), as defined in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, which was adopted by the UN General Assembly in 2015.

The Republic of Belarus joined UNESCO in 1954. For many years our country has been maintaining fruitful and dynamic relations with this organization. UNESCO is an important partner of Belarus in solving problems in the socio-cultural sphere, as well as a unique platform for promoting achievements in the fields of culture, science, education, information technology, for promoting the republic's foreign policy initiatives and developing mutually beneficial bilateral contacts. The Republic of Belarus attaches great importance to cooperation within UNESCO, takes an active position in the governing and subsidiary bodies of the Organization, makes a significant contribution to the formation of UNESCO's policy, its agenda, participates in the development of normative documents, initiates new directions of activity.

The exposition presents more than 100 documents in Russian, English and French: books, periodicals, brochures, booklets.
