Form July 14, 2009, to August 19, 2009, in the National Library of Belarus (the second floor, circular hall) is open a book exhibition “Tourism and leisure in Belarus”.
Tourism is one of the essentials of the modern economics; the income from tourist industry is comparable with that from energy supply and armament. Development of an efficient tourist infrastructure in Belarus has become today one of national priorities. The “National program of the development of tourism in the Republic of Belarus for 2008–2010” determines the main branches of national tourist industry: cultural and educational, religious, recreational, as well as business, water, sport and agroecological tourism.
Tourist industry in Belarus is under control of the Department of tourism of the Ministry of Sport and Tourism of the Republic of Belarus and moderated by the National Agency of Tourism.
Principles of the state policy in the field of tourist industry are determined by the Law of the Republic of Belarus. The Law along with other legal documents, dictionaries, reference books, monographs, textbooks, and other publications on tourist industry are displayed at the exposition. There are as well books on tourist industry, innovations and development, international experience in agrotourism, history of children and educational tourism, tourist security and insurance; encyclopedias on the modern Belarus, colorful guidebooks, booklets and photo albums dedicated to Belarusian cities and towns; materials on the history and folklore of Belarus; literature dedicated to Belarusian national parks, hunting grounds and fishing areas.
Agrotourism has recently become very popular among European tourists, and it is developing intensively in Belarus as well. A particular section of the exhibition displays catalogs of manors, books on Belarusian folk holidays, custom, traditional handicraft, as well as articled dedicated to the issues and perspectives of Belarusian agrotourism.
The exposition totals more than 200 materials and is designed for those who want to go on holiday in Belarus and learn more about its history and culture as well as for experts in travel industry and students studying the subject.
