On the eve of the one-hundredth anniversary of the National Library of Belarus, the exhibition "Temples of Time, Memory, Thought" is held to mark the professional day, Belarus Libraries Day.
As evidenced by archival documents, the main library of the country, originally created at the Belarusian State University, was actively developed in 1921. By the decree of the Government of the BSSR dated September 15, 1922, it was officially declared the Belarusian State and University Library. This date is considered the foundation day of the National Library of Belarus, and since 2001 it has been celebrated as National Libraries Day.
In its nearly century-long history, the country's main library has changed several addresses. Today, the National Library building is a magnificent engineering and architectural structure, built in accordance with the latest scientific and technological innovations, and is as well-equipped as the biggest national libraries in the world and is the largest information and socio-cultural centre in the country.
The exhibition, which coincides with the professional day of libraries in Belarus, displays over 50 documents: anniversary photo albums, books, visual materials and electronic publications on the history of the country's main library. A unique set of photographic documents from the collection of the National Library of Belarus will be exhibited for the first time and will guide visitors through the State Library building on Chyrvonaarmiejiskaja Street, through its halls and the atmosphere created by a team of friendly professionals, each of whom has left a piece of his or her soul there.
The exhibition is located on the 2nd floor, circular corridor and will run from September 14 to November 30.
