From 21 March to 10 April, at the National Library of Belarus (2nd floor, circular hall) runs an exhibition "The splendor of Italian art in Franco Maria Ricci books”.

On the eve of the 150th anniversary of Italian Unification, the Embassy of the Republic of Italy in the Republic of Belarus and the National Library of Belarus offer an exhibition including original books and journals published by one of the most prestigious publishing houses in the world.

In 1963, aristocrat and brilliant graphic designer Franco Maria Ricci established in his native city of Parma the publishing house which was named after its founder.

The folios by Franco Maria Ricci Publishing House (FMR) are famous for an exceptional quality of design, hand-made tinted paper and sets of photographs, reproductions, maps, drawings and schemes inserted in books.

Texts written by art critics whose names are well known the world over are remarkable for the beauty, clearness and harmony of print achieved thanks to the use of Вodoni typeface and the perfect proportion between printed texts and white area. Signor Ricci has adopted this method from Giambattista Bodoni, the developer of 400 kinds of prints and head of the Royal Printing House in Parma in the 18th – early 19th centuries.

Giambattista Bodoni’s “Manuale tipografico” has become the first edition of FMR Publishing House as a tribute to the genius from whom Signor Ricci has also adopted some methods of design for his stylish black silk book covers.

The exhibition presents more than 70 editions by Franco Maria Ricci Publishing House including the art encyclopedias “ART FMR” with a marvelous design and albums about the art collection of the National Gallery of Parma.

The splendid sights of old Florence performed by Italian artist Fabio Borbottoni are collected in the book “Florence lost”. The album “La Scala” is dedicated to the world-famous opera in Milan. The art journal “FMR” published since 1982 six times per year in Italian, English, French and Spanish is considered as the most beautiful journal in the world.

The illustrated historical and biographical edition “ANTICHI STATI” in 30 volumes is the most precious exhibit. This is a perfect work of printed art and an impeccable pattern of style.

The exquisite classical style of Franco Maria Ricci Publishing House along with the limited edition makes their books particularly valuable for bibliophiles and book collectors the world over.
