“The Song Will Stay in People’s Memory”, an exhibition timed to the 80th anniversary of Belarusian composer Igor Luchenok, runs in the music and audiovisual documents room (305), from July 26 to September 7.

Igor Luchenok, one of the most outstanding composers of our time, is the People's Artist of Belarus and the USSR, Honored Art Worker of Belarus and Poland, winner of the State Prize of Belarus, owner of the Order of Francysk Skaryna and the Cup "Pride of the Nation" and chairman of the Belarusian Union of Composers.

The panorama of the composer's achievements surprises with the breadth and immensity of artistic searching. Igor Luchenok has written a bright page in the history of the 20th century song culture, creating colorful and expressive works that demonstrate the highest skill and maturity of creative thinking. Igor Luchenok’s songs have become part of the golden fund of the Belarusian musical culture, opening new dimensions in this genre of musical art. His works are performed by Belarusian and Russian singers and musicians, both in the composer’s homeland and far beyond the borders of Belarus.

The songs of Lichenok attract the listener with a lyrical and romantic tone and variety of themes. The exhibition presents the songs "Moj rodny kut", "Spadchyna", "Zhurauly na Palesse ljacjac", in which patriotism and citizenship are combined with sincere lyricism and cordiality.

His songs dedicated to the Great Patriotic War are remarkable for very serious and meaningful lyrics. The exposition acquaints visitors with the first work of Luchenok, which embodies the theme of the Great Patriotic War, the cantata "The Soldier's Heart", and also the well-known songs "Khatyn Nightingales", "Letter from the 45th", "Memory of the Heart", "Kurgan of Glory", "May Waltz", etc.

In many works, the composer manifests himself as a lofty lyrical poet, singing love and female beauty. Examples are "Veranica", "Alesya", "My Enchanted", "Tango of Our Love", "And while on Earth there is Love," etc.

The genre diapason of Igor Luchenok is not limited to songs, but extends from vocal miniatures, chamber-instrumental music to a large vocal-symphonic genre. The exhibition presents editions of the composer’s music for various instrumental compositions: "Sonata for violin and piano", "Preludes for piano", "Scherzo for cymbals and pianoforte", and choruses based on verses of Belarusian poets.

The exposition also includes books about the composer’s life and career, as well as articles published in periodicals.


The opening hours of the exhibition correspond to the opening hours of the library.
Entrance to the exhibition is available by the library ticket or ticket of the library's social and cultural center.

"Soldier's Fate": on the 100th anniversary of Vasil Bykov and the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from Nazi invaders

This year marks the 100th anniversary of the birth of the People's writer of Belarus, publicist and screenwriter Vasil Vladimirovich Bykov.
On this occasion, the National Library has prepared an anniversary exhibition "Soldier's fate", which highlights the great influence on the work of the Belarusian writer of his participation in the Great Patriotic War.
