From 1 April to 5 June, in the Legal information reading room (room 207b) runs the subject book exhibition “The Republic of Belarus. The National Emblem, Anthem and Flag” timed to the Day of the National Emblem and the National Flag of the Republic of Belarus.
On 14 May, 1995, in the Republic of Belarus took place the national referendum on national symbols initiated by Belarus President A.G. Lukashenko. 75,1 % of referendum participants voted for the variants of the national emblem and flag suggested by the President. After publication of the referendum results, on 7 June 1995, the President issued the Edict № 213 “About the ratification of the standard National Emblem of the Republic of Belarus and the Thesis on the National Emblem of the Republic of Belarus”. In that way our country received its current National Emblem and National Flag which, along with the National Anthem, are the basic attributes of the State system and the symbols of the sovereignty of the Republic of Belarus.
On 5 July, 2004, the Law of the Republic of Belarus “About the national symbols of the Republic of Belarus” was adopted. It is directed on legal regulation of the questions concerning the national symbols of our country established by the Constitution and determines their description and use.
The national symbols of the Republic of Belarus have made a long way of formation, development and ratification. They keep the features reflecting the peaceful, constructive purposes of the Belarusian people and State. The National Emblem, Anthem and Flag of the Republic of Belarus through simple and clear symbols represent patriotic, historical and cultural traditions of the country and the people’s character and spiritual potential. They have the bright features and are recognizable among other national symbols of the world community.
The National Emblem, Anthem and Flag are the major symbols of the independence, reflecting the people’s historical and cultural heritage and accentuating the national spirit and dignity of Belarusian citizens.
The exhibition is designed for a broad spectrum of readers.
The exposition comprises about 40 documents.
The exhibition includes the subject sections as follow:
- The history of the development of the national symbols of Belarus.
- The current symbols of the Republic of Belarus.
- The National Anthem as the attribute of the State system of the Republic of Belarus.
