A book exhibition "The painter of happiness” timed to the 170th birthday of French painter, graphic artist, sculptor, one of the greatest masters of impressionism Auguste Renoir (1841–1919) runs from February 23 to March 14 at the Visual Materials Reading Room (room 307).

Auguste Renoir is one of the liveliest artists in the history of arts. He had the reputation for the painter of happiness, the master of harmony and the poet of children and women. Renoir’s paintings represent a joyful and serene world where is no place for sadness or misery.

The artist is a master of portrait paintings. To him, the human is the most beautiful creation in the harmonious universe. Renoir had created his own kind of woman’s beauty noted for an exquisite feminity and delicacy. “Girl with a Fan”, “The Portrait of Jeanne Samary”, “The Young Bather” – theses radiant, soft portraits performed in transparent colors had become the anthem to sensible, natural beauty. Children’s faces in the artist’s paintings “Girl with a Watering Can”, “Girl with a Hoop”, “Girl with a Whip” and others, depicted in a charming and vivid way, are full of a careless joy.

The 1870s had become for Renoir the time of the greatest artistic achievements. During this period he created his masterpieces such as “The Theater Box”, “Swing”, “Ball at the Mouln de la Galette”. The painter, an optimist by nature, was devoted to the delight of living and to the world of beauty, pleasure and happiness that he represented in his paintings. The art of Auguste Renoir is always the blooming and never the fading.

The exhibition presents more than 100 sources: albums, books, calendars, reproductions, postcards and posters.
