In honor of the 130th anniversary from the birth of Yakub Kolas, the Book Museum (room 348) displays manuscripts, first editions and the book with the autograph of the classic of Belarusian literature.


Visitors of the museum will see the verses written by the poet’s hand in the beginning of the 20th century.

The printed books are represented by the first collection of Y. Kolas’ verses “Песні-жальбы” (“The Lamentation Songs”) published in Vilno in 1910. The Saint Petersburg editions of the association “Загляне сонца і ў наша аконца» are represented by Y. Kolas’ schoolbook “Другое чытанне для дзетак беларусаў” (“The Second Reading for Children of Belarusians”) (1909), and also the short story in verse “Батрак. Як Юрка збагацеў” (“The Day Laborer”) (1913).

The rare editions are represented by the book translated into Polish “У Палескай глушы” (“In the Backwoods of Polesie”) (Warsaw, 1950) whose title-page features the dedicatory inscription: “To the Lenin State Library. Yakub Kolas. 31.XII.1953”.

Students of the Belarusian State Academy of Music visited the National library

On April 18, the students of the Belarusian State Academy of Music visited the National Library of Belarus as part of the environmental education and upbringing program. They got acquainted with the thematic book exhibition "Water is a wonderful gift of Nature" dedicated to World Water Day. The exposition is presented in the documents of international organizations reading room (room 207 g).

A new project of the National Library of Belarus is dedicated to the Great Patriotic War – "Reading newspaper lines with your heart. On the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from the Nazi invaders."
Every week from January to August 2024, the portal of the National Library publishes materials from newspapers of Soviet Belarus in 1944, reflecting the chronicle of news and events of that time.
