From 7 to 30 March, an exhibition "The light of a March word" dedicated to the 75th anniversary of Belarusian linguist Galina Molozhay (1938–2005) runs in the Belarusian Literature Reading Room (room 205).


During all her life Doctor of Philology, member of the Academy of Education of Belarus, talented scientist Galina Molozhay was grateful to her teacher – Fyodor Yankovski. It was he who helped the future researcher of the native language to reveal her great talent. Kind and sincere words of the mentor, his advice encouraged Galina Molozhay and due to it she worked with enthusiasm in the field of the native Belarusian language and teaching.

Galina Molozhay wrote the work Perifraza v sovremennom beloruskom yazyke (strukturno-semanticheskaya i stilisticheskaya kharakteristika) (Periphrasis in the modern Belarusian language (structural-semantic and stylistic characteristics)), and later there appeared a dictionary Belaruskaya peryfraza (Belarusian periphrasis) in Belarusian. And it was a real revolution in the Belarusian linguistics.

The exhibition consists of three sections: "Our word must live", "Adherence to the word and deed", "The light of the native speech" tell about the talented researcher’s life and work.

The exposition includes such books as Belaruskaya peryfraza (Belarusian periphrasis) (1974), Suchasnaya belaruskaya mova (Modern Belarusian language) (1980), Lіngvіstychny analіz tekstu: zadannі, teksty, parady (Linguistic analysis of texts: tasks, texts, guidelines) (1982, 1992), Belaruskaya mova (Belarusian language) (1996, co-author), Pazaklasnaya pratsa pa belaruskay move (Practical work in Belarusian) (1990, co-author), Praktykum pa belaruskay move (Practical work in Belarusian) (1993, co-author), Suchasnaya belaruskaya mova. Slovy. Peryfraza. Frazealagіzm (Modern Belarusian language. Words. Periphrasis. Phraseology) (1992), Tsentralіzavanae testsіravanne. Belaruskaya mova (Centralized test. Belarusian language) (2004, 2005), Shkolny tlumachalny slounіk belaruskay movy (Belarusian school explanatory dictionary) (2013, co-author), etc.

Galina Molozhay’s editions are published even after her death. Former colleagues and pupils are now publishing the scientific legacy of his beloved teacher and associate.

Due to their efforts there were released two scientific publications devoted to the two anniversaries – to the 60th and 70th anniversaries of the birth of Professor Galina Molozhay. In 1998, the scientific book Svyatlo sakavіtskaga slova (The light of a March word) appeared. In 2008, the Republican Scientific Conference was held and its materials were included into the collection Aktualnyya prablemy movaznaustva i lіngvadydaktykі (Relevant problems of linguistics and linguodidactics). All the visitors of the exhibition have the opportunity to acquaint themselves with these documents, as well as with a number of works written by the researcher in co-authership.

"Soldier's Fate": on the 100th anniversary of Vasil Bykov and the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from Nazi invaders

This year marks the 100th anniversary of the birth of the People's writer of Belarus, publicist and screenwriter Vasil Vladimirovich Bykov.
On this occasion, the National Library has prepared an anniversary exhibition "Soldier's fate", which highlights the great influence on the work of the Belarusian writer of his participation in the Great Patriotic War.
