The library in time and space

Other news

From 15 September to 31 October, the book exhibition “The library in time and space” timed to Libraries Day runs in the Book Museum.

The most part of the exhibition is dedicated to old-printed books of the 15th–18th centuries with engravings depicting library premises and portraits of scribes of different historical epochs.

Thus the German palaeotype of 1532 includes an engraving depicting conflagration in the Alexandria Library, one of the oldest and biggest libraries of the antiquity known from the 3rd century BC.

Engravings from European incunabula (15th century), palaeotypes (16th century) and Belarusian old-printed books (16th–17th centuries) give a general idea of medieval scriptoria, monastery libraries and also devices used by old-time copyists.

Interiors and equipment of scientific and university libraries and private book collections are presented in engravings from old-printed editions on display.
