From October 6, 2011, to January 6, 2012, at the National Library of Belarus (3rd floor, circular hall) runs an anniversary exhibition "The great Russian talented man" dedicated to the 300th birthday of М.V. Lomonosov.


Mikhail Lomonosov is an outstanding Russian scientist who is recognized in the whole world. He is a poet who laid the bases of modern Russian literary language, artist and historian, the upholder of the development of the national enlightenment, science and economy, the creator of molecular-kinetic theory. He is one of initiators of the establishment of Moscow State University named in his honour.

There are about 150 books including scientific works, philosophic writings, collections of lyrics, critical materials about scientific and literary activity, biographical works, and also literature on history and culture of the 18th century at the exhibition devoted to Mikhail Lomonosov.

The exposition contains a full collection of Mikhail Lomonosov’s works published in 10 volumes in Moscow in 1957.

The book “Собрание сочинений известнейших русских писателей” (Collection of famous Russian writers’ works) appeared in Moscow in 1846 is of interest. The first edition of this collection is devoted to Lomonosov.

There are also represented selected M. Lomonosov’s works published in Saint-Petersburg in 1892.

In Valery Shubinsky’s book “Михаил Ломоносов. Всероссийский человек” (Mikhail Lomonosov. All-Russian man) the author uses archival documents and historical researches and tries to recreate bright, remarkable Lomonosov’s personality in the context of his discrepant epoch.

There is on display the book of E. P. Karpeev “Русская культура и Ломоносов” (Russian culture and Lomonosov) which is published to the 300th anniversary from Lomonosov’s birth. In this book the author tried to understand Lomonosov’s role in the development of national culture and science.

Books from this exposition help a reader, on the one hand, to extend his knowledge about one of the outstanding Russian people, on the other hand, to form his own opinion about Lomonosov.

Students of the Belarusian State Academy of Music visited the National library

On April 18, the students of the Belarusian State Academy of Music visited the National Library of Belarus as part of the environmental education and upbringing program. They got acquainted with the thematic book exhibition "Water is a wonderful gift of Nature" dedicated to World Water Day. The exposition is presented in the documents of international organizations reading room (room 207 g).
