From May 18th to May 31st in the Periodicals Reading Room (room 106) is open an exhibition «The best periodicals: the results of the VI National contest of mass media “The Golden Letter”».


For the sixth time, names of winners of the contest “The Golden Letter” have been announced on the Day of Press, the journalists’ professional holiday.

The main purpose of the contest annually held by the Ministry of Information of the Republic of Belarus is as follows: assistance to the development of printed mass media in the Republic of Belarus, improvement of their proficiency, and stimulation of the activity of journalists and other creative workers employed in mass media.

Printed mass media, information agencies registered in Belarus, periodicals distributors and also individuals recommended by the editors participate in the contest.

This year the creative contest has been held in 22 nominations.

The exposition of the National Library of Belarus presents periodicals-laureates of the contest. The displayed documents are classified by groups and nominations.

Newspapers and journals well-known and popular in Belarus are among the winners. For instance, newspaper “SB. Belarus Today” has won in nomination “The best social and political materials”. Newspaper “The Republic” and journal “The Supreme Economic Court Bulletin” have become laureates of “The Golden Letter” (in nomination “The best economic materials”). Newspaper “Arguments and Facts” has won in nomination “The best social materials”.

Newspapers “Narodnaya Gazeta” (project “7 miracles of Belarus”), “Kultura” (project “The smoke of front-lime paths”), “Belaruski Tchas” (photo project “We are Belarus”) and “Znamia Younosti” (project “Meet Venezuela!”) have won the grand-prix in nomination “The best creative project of republican printed mass-media and information agencies”.

Regional periodicals “Grodzenskaya Prauda” (project “The truth about Grodno region”), “Vecherniy Brest” (project “The Eastern partnership”), and “Svislatskaya Gazeta” (project “The Victory forged by Svisloch journalists”), and also Nicolay Levchenko, the editor-in-chief of Bykhov regional newspaper “Mayak Prydnyaprouya” (project “Juvenile prisoners”) have received prizes for the best creative projects of the year.

"Soldier's Fate": on the 100th anniversary of Vasil Bykov and the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from Nazi invaders

This year marks the 100th anniversary of the birth of the People's writer of Belarus, publicist and screenwriter Vasil Vladimirovich Bykov.
On this occasion, the National Library has prepared an anniversary exhibition "Soldier's fate", which highlights the great influence on the work of the Belarusian writer of his participation in the Great Patriotic War.
