The National Library of Belarus presents a book-illustrative exhibition “The best books of Belarus” summarizing the 46th Republican competition “The Art of Book”.


The purpose of the exhibition is to present to the attention of readers and visitors of the Library the best books of Belarusian public and private publishing houses for 2005.

327 editions are on display. These are books – prize-winners and nominees of the republican competition “The Art of Book – 2006” which took place in Minsk from February, 17 till February, 19th, 2006.

The printer layout, the artistic structure of the book, the organic interrelation between illustrations and contents play an important role in book art and polygraphy culture of the book and, finally, increase the level of national book publishing which is part of the material culture of our country.

The next republican competition “The Art of Book” was held in our republic for the 46th time. Its founders are the Ministry of the Information and the public association “ Belarusian association of publishers and booksellers”. Editions released in 2005 were presented at the contest.

This is an original creative report of publishers, artists and printers who have created the best samples of printed production for the last year.

The purpose of the given competition is to increase the quantity of competitive books, to attract new talented artists to designing and illustrating of editions, to associate creative efforts of masters of graphics, book design, publishers and printers.

The supreme award of the competition – the F. Skoryna Diploma – is conferred on the anniversary edition "Победа" / "The Victory" (“1418 Days of the World War II. The Memory with the Tears in Eyes”, publishing house “Mastatskaya litaratuta”, printed by the Minsk Color Press Factory (MFCP), artists V. Rogalevich and A. Petrov).

Best editions of the year are:

  • «Вялікае княства Літоўскае» / “The Grand Duchy of Lithuania”  vol.1, (publishing house “The Belarusian Encyclopedia named after P. Brovka, printed by the Minsk Color Press Factory (MFCP), artist D. Gerasimovich);
  • Віктар Альшэўскі «Уражанне раўнавагі, альбо Лесвіца ўверх» / Victor Alshevsky “The Impression of the Balance, or the Stairs Upward” (publishing house “Mastatskaya litaratuta”, printed by the Poligraphic factory named after Y. Kolas, design by V. Alshevsky and D. Sinyavsky);
  • "Алмаз в действии" / “The Diamond in Action” (publishing house “The Information center of integration information”, printed by the Poligraphic factory named after Y. Kolas, artists A. Petrov and V. Rogalevich).

Editions on display are presented in the following sections: public publishing houses; publishing houses of state structures; private publishing houses; polygraphic enterprises; religious publishing houses, – inside of sections – according to concrete publishing houses.

All books winners of the contest diplomas and prizes are marked with special information labels.

Students of the Belarusian State Academy of Music visited the National library

On April 18, the students of the Belarusian State Academy of Music visited the National Library of Belarus as part of the environmental education and upbringing program. They got acquainted with the thematic book exhibition "Water is a wonderful gift of Nature" dedicated to World Water Day. The exposition is presented in the documents of international organizations reading room (room 207 g).

A new project of the National Library of Belarus is dedicated to the Great Patriotic War – "Reading newspaper lines with your heart. On the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from the Nazi invaders."
Every week from January to August 2024, the portal of the National Library publishes materials from newspapers of Soviet Belarus in 1944, reflecting the chronicle of news and events of that time.
