A book and illustrative exhibition “Shine, shadows, murmur of the waves…” timed to the 200th anniversary of the outstanding master of seascape Ivan Aivazovsky (1817–1900) runs in the Fine arts reading room (306), from 28 July to 29 September.
The whole world knows the name of Ivan Aivazovsky, a talented and original marine painter. Contemporaries called him "the creator of storms and the enchanting beauty of the resting sea" for spectacular portrayals of shipwrecks, weather and storms, and also poetic landscapes of a calm sea coming from the master’s pencil. Despite having traveled a lot, Aivazovsky constantly returned to the Black Sea which washes the ancient city of Feodosia where the artist was born. Here he created a gallery of Crimean landscapes. In addition, Ivan Aivazovsky devoted a number of works to naval battles, that is an undeniable contribution to the development of the battle genre.
The offered exhibition presents colorful albums including that of E. Evstratova Ivan Aivazovsky. The Great Singer of the Sea (2017). The section “Unknown Aivazovsky”, which presents little known and rarely published paintings, is especially interesting.
