“Researcher and Writer”, an exhibition timed to the 60th anniversary of the Belarusian writer and literary critic, candidate of philological sciences Piotr Vasyuchenko, runs in the Belarusian literature room (205), from February 14 to March 20.
Piotr Vasyuchenko was born on February 15, 1959 in Polotsk. He graduated from the Faculty of Journalism of the Belarusian State University in 1981, then postgraduate school at the Institute of Literature named after Yanka Kupala, the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, where he worked as a research assistant; since 1997 he is an associate professor, head of the Belarusian language and literature department of the Minsk State Linguistic University. He is a member of the Union of Belarusian Writers, member of the jury of the literary prize named after Jerzy Gedroyc, and winner of the “Glinyany Valais” Literary Award (2003).
Piotr Vasyuchenko explores the legacy of the classics of Belarusian literature, as well as the work of modern prose writers and playwrights. He is the author of scientific papers on Belarusian dramaturgy and literature of the 20th century. Monographs, collections of scientific papers, literary and critical essays, as well as publications by Piotr Vasyuchenko and books with his prefaces and afterwords are presented in the section "Vasyuchenko as a researcher."
The exhibition section “Vasyuchenko as a writer” presents his works published as separate editions, in collections and magazines. Piotr Vasyuchenko’s prose and dramaturgy is remarkable for humor, irony, grotesque, paradox and subtext. Books of short stories, collections of plays and books of fairy tales for children are on display.
The section “The formula of Piotr Vasyuchenko” includes materials about the “creative laboratory” of the writer and researcher, and his methods of literary analysis of Belarusian literature.
