From 1 December to 2 January, in the Music and audio materials reading room (room 305) runs a subject exhibition "Piano ensembles”.

The exposition includes printed music for ensemble music-making from the collections of the National Library of Belarus.

At present the piano ensemble is one of the most demanded kinds of chamber music-making. The tradition to associate known soloists in a piano ensemble is getting stronger every year. A joint public performance of leading pianists-soloists has become the frequent phenomenon in concert programs.

The ability to play with one or several partners is a very important angle of professional skill of a performing musician. Playing in an ensemble helps a pianist to make their performance more diverse, bright and confident. Ensemble music-making, in comparison with solo, not only furthers the professional growth of a musician but also develops remarkable human qualities such as mutual respect, tact and partnership.

Undoubtedly, the selection of repertoire for piano ensembles is the greatest difficulty for both performers and pedagogues.

More than 100 documents are on display: various pieces by Belarusian and foreign composers, both modern and classical. The exposition includes musical compositions of different complexity for home music-making, education and concerts.

The exhibition presents piano literature for ensemble music-making of various genres and styles. Here it is possible to find as the products Music written specially for a piano ensemble, transpositions of popular and classical songs, fragments of operas, romances, and also modern adaptations of folk songs and dances for ensemble music-making, transpositions of songs and music from cartoons and films and jazz pieces are on display.

Thematic audio records, books and articles add to the exposition.
