The exhibition “Music that gives joy” timed to the 75th anniversary of Grigorij Surus, the Belarusian composer and honored artist of Belarus, runs in the Music and audiovisual documents reading room (305) from 12 July to 31 August.


The music of Grigorij Surus enchants with vivacity, democratism and sincerity of expression. His works enjoy popularity, and some of them are winners of various festivals and competitions. The composer’s instrumental compositions, especially piano pieces, are successfully performed at concerts, music classes and contests. They are remarkable for the author’s vivid imagination, the richness of factures, techniques and performance, a thought-out embodiment of artistic concepts.

Grigorij Surus’ creativity shows his interest to different musical genres and forms. Music for drama plays is represented by musical comedies (video is available). The master’s pieces for the orchestra, chamber pieces, adaptations of Belarusian folk songs, teaching repertoire for the cello, accordion, wooden brass, and also vocal and instrumental works (cantatas, concerts, suites) are on display.

The composer also writes for children and young adults: cantatas based on children’s poets and folklore, concerts for the piano and orchestra, piano cycles etc.

The offered exhibition presents printed and handwritten music, records of the composer’s works performed by the best Belarusian musicians, videos of author’s and thematic concerts.

The exposition also includes periodical articles about the composer’s life and work.

"Soldier's Fate": on the 100th anniversary of Vasil Bykov and the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from Nazi invaders

This year marks the 100th anniversary of the birth of the People's writer of Belarus, publicist and screenwriter Vasil Vladimirovich Bykov.
On this occasion, the National Library has prepared an anniversary exhibition "Soldier's fate", which highlights the great influence on the work of the Belarusian writer of his participation in the Great Patriotic War.
