A subject book exhibition "Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!” runs at the National Library of Belarus (the circular hall on the second floor) from December 21, 2010, to January 19, 2011.
The Christmas holiday was always celebrated among the Slavs being a crucial date in both Christian and people’s calendars. Christmas, the holiday established in honor of Christ’s birth, begins the cycle of winter holidays.
The New Year holiday is an ancient, nearly 25 centuries-old tradition of all peoples the world over. A bright and scenic exhibition "Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!” is dedicated to the history of these holidays, traditional Slavonic believes and legends. One of the exhibition sections is about the Christmas holiday celebrations in France, Germany, Canada and other countries.
Holiday interior decorations and traditional Christmas meals create a magical New Year environment. The exhibition presents to visitors’ attention a set of books about interior decorating, Christmas gifts ideas, carnival masks and Christmas-tree decorations making, Christmas table arrangements, recipes of traditional meals.
Hearty and warm relations in the family circle are also very important on Christmas holidays. The exhibition section “Christmas lectures” offers interesting conversation themes including thrilling stories, fairytales, songs and poems by celebrated poets I. Brodsky, Vl. Soloviev, А. Fet, М. Lermontov, F. Sologub, К. Balmont, А. Blok, М. Tsvetaeva and others. Besides, the exhibition presents books of holiday scenario, congratulations and greetings.
