On April 2, our country celebrates the Day of Unity of the Peoples of Belarus and Russia. By this day, a book exhibition “Literary Infinity” has opened at the National Library of Belarus.
In the history of the development of the cultures of Belarus and Russia, a significant role belongs to literary translation, which strengthens and mutually enriches the cultural ties between our peoples. In addition, the availability of high-quality translations indicates that the national literature and language have already reached a certain degree of development. Translation promotes the popularization of the literature and culture of the people, increases the level of self-awareness of people.
The exhibition “Literary Infinity” presents works by Frantishk Bogushevich, Vincent Dunin-Martsinkevich, Yanka Kupala, Yakub Kolas, Maksim Bagdanovich, Zmitrok Byaduli, Kuzma Chorny, Tishka Gartny, Maksim Goretsky, Mikhas Charot, Vladimir Dubouka, Yankir Birylya, translated into Russian. Mikhas Lynkov, Vladimir Korotkevich, Ivan Melezh, Vasil Bykov, Ivan Shamyakin, Arkady Kuleshov, Andrey Makayonok. A significant part of the presented works of translations was published in pre-war times, which indicates the interest in the Belarusian literature of that time on the part of the Russian reader.
Translations of the classics of Russian literature are also represented mainly by pre-war editions. And this is no coincidence: the young Belarusian republic developed its own culture and built its own education system. Translations made in the 1920s and 1930s. XX century, allowed Belarusians to get acquainted with the works of Alexander Pushkin, Alexander Griboyedov, Mikhail Lermontov, Nikolai Gogol, Ivan Goncharov, Nikolai Nekrasov, Fyodor Dostoevsky, Alexander Ostrovsky, Anton Chekhov, Ivan Turgenev, Lev Tolstoy, Maxim Gorky, Vladimir Mayastakovsky, , Anna Akhmatova, Mikhail Sholokhov, Alexei Tolstoy, Korney Chukovsky, Konstantin Paustovsky, Alexander Fadeev, Mikhail Bulgakov.
The accumulated historical experience of Belarusian-Russian literary relationships is of great value. The topic of literary translations remains relevant today, as it contributes to the strengthening of friendship between the Belarusian and Russian peoples.
The exhibition is located on the circular corridor of the 3rd floor and runs until April 30, 2021.
