For the first time in the capital, a unique opportunity to see a copy of a landmark printed book for Belarusian culture – Brest, or Radziwill, Bible, presented to Brest in 2019 for the 1000th anniversary of the city has been given to the general public.

The Book Museum of the National Library of Belarus held a grand opening of the exhibition "That 1,000th Anniversary Present".

The unique copy of the Brest Bible, dated 1563, is from the collection of the Brest History Museum.

Mr Alies Susha, Deputy Director General of the National Library of Belarus, made an opening speech. He recalled the story of the transfer of the Brest Bible to the city over the Buh and noted the significance of this event for Belarus. He also announced the great news: the valuable copy has been digitized and researched by the staff of the National Library. He stressed that the exhibition was a great result of many years of research and an excellent example of cooperation with the Brest City History Museum.

Ms Sviatlana Tamchuk, Director of the Brest City History Museum, spoke about the importance of restoring historical and cultural monuments of our heritage and their popularisation. At the end of the event Ms Tamchuk expressed her gratitude to the Chairperson of the Brest City Executive Committee Mr Aliaksandr Rahachuk for the joint work on the digitization, research and exhibiting of the book monument.

The exhibition will be on show at the Book Museum (room 347) until December 21, 2021.

The opening hours of the exhibition correspond to the opening hours of the Book Museum.
Admission is by the library card or by the Social and Cultural Centre ticket.

On April 24, 2024, at the International Scientific and Practical Conference "Rumyantsev Readings-2024" in Moscow, Olga Polunchenko, chief bibliographer of the Department of reference and Information Services, presented a report "The role of Adam Shanyavsky in organizing the library fund of the Nesvizh County School (the last quarter of the XVIII century)."
