From 25 June to 30 July, an exhibition "In the fire of 1812. The events of the war on the territory of Belarus" runs in the Belarusian Literature Reading Room (room 205).


The Russian defensive war against the French invasion in 1812 became an ordeal for the Belarusian people. 600th thousand Napoleon’s army crossed the Belarusian land with brutal fights and brought numerous human, moral and material losses.

The exhibition, timed to the 200th anniversary of the beginning of World War II, contains more than 350 documents and is divided into five sections, which titles clearly reveal the content of the exposition: "For the independence and honor of the Motherland", "The Belarusian land is an arena for hard battles", "The strength and power of the people’s spirit", " Their names are unforgotten in history", " Belarusians have a legend... ". Among the exhibits there are documents and acts, encyclopedias, author’s publications, proceedings of international conferences and exhibitions, etc. The shelves of the exposition demonstrate pre-revolutionary, Soviet and contemporary books and periodicals. Among them are "История Отечественной войны 1812 года по достоверным источникам" (The History of the War of 1812 according to reliable sources) (3 volumes, 1859–1860) M.N. Bogdanovich, "Белорусский народ в Отечественной войне 1812 года" (The Belarusian people in the war of 1812) (1962) E.I. Korneychik, "Отечественная война 1812 года на Юго-Западе России" (The War of 1812 in the South-West of Russia) (1987) B.S. Abalikhina, "Сто великих героев 1812 года" (A hundred of great heroes of 1812) (2010), "Беларусь и война 1812 года: документы" (Belarus and the War of 1812: Documents) (2011) A.V. Shishov.

The exhibition presents works of the researchers who actively engaged in this topic – A.M. Lukashevich, V.V. Swed, A.V. Eroshevich, Y.I. Litvinovskaya, V.A. Lyakin, I.A. Gruts and others.

Numerous publications and magazine publications tell about the battles that took place in towns Mir (a borough in Novogrudok district, Grodno region), Romanovo (village Lenino, Slutsk district, Minsk region), Ostrovno (Vitebsk region), near villages Dashkovka and Novosyoly in Mogilev region, in cities Kobrin, Polotsk, Vitebsk, Mogilev, Borisov, on the Berezina River, etc.

The visitors of the exhibition have an opportunity to get acquainted with the books of the series "Память: историко-документальные хроники городов и районов Беларуси" (Memory: Historical documentary chronicles the cities and regions of Belarus), which contain local history information, including the events of 1812, and presented a complete collection in the fund of the Belarusian Literature Freading Room.

The documents from the exhibition tell about recruiting in the Russian army from Belarusian provinces, high courage and bravery shown by Belarusian solders on 26 August (7 September) of 1812 in the Battle of Borodino, which became the beginning of the collapse of Napoleon’s military adventures, etc.

"Soldier's Fate": on the 100th anniversary of Vasil Bykov and the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from Nazi invaders

This year marks the 100th anniversary of the birth of the People's writer of Belarus, publicist and screenwriter Vasil Vladimirovich Bykov.
On this occasion, the National Library has prepared an anniversary exhibition "Soldier's fate", which highlights the great influence on the work of the Belarusian writer of his participation in the Great Patriotic War.
