An illustrated book exhibition “Her Majesty Fashion” dedicated to the history of European fashion runs in the Fine arts reading room (No. 306) from April 28th to May 19th.
Fashion as a social and cultural phenomenon appeared when clothing had lost its original purpose – protection from the cold, and had become a significant part of the human aesthetic appearance. However, we can talk about Fashion with a capital letter only with the appearance of people who "dressed the era" – talented tailors who generally rejected the immutable will of customers and began to implement their own ideas in clothes.
The offered exhibition presents books about the history of the greatest fashion houses and world fashion brands (Versache, Chanel, D&G). Visitors will get acquainted with the biography and work of the prominent couturiers of the ХХ century Paul Poiret, Gabrielle Chanel, Christian Dior, Giorgio Armani, Gianni Versace, Hubert de Givenchy and many others.
The exposition features French fashion magazines of the late XIX – early XX centuries with drawings of fashionable dresses (Journal des demoiselles, L’art et la mode), and also modern periodicals (Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, Fashion Collection, Индустрия моды, Теория моды, Ателье) which will be interesting to both newcomers in fashion-industry wanting to join the latest trends in the fashion world, and professionals who create clothes.
A special section presents publications on philosophy and psychology of fashion, its influence on the consciousness and popular culture, as well as clothing design and fashion brand promotion.
More than 40 documents are on display.
