From 25 July to 12 August, an exhibition "Forward to the past" dedicated to the 70th anniversary of Belarusian fine art expert Nadezhda Vysotskaya runs in the Visual Materials Reading Room (room 307).


Doctor of Fine Arts (1994), Professor of the Belarusian State University (1998), winner of the State Prize of the Republic of Belarus in the field of science and technology (1996), Head of the Department of the Ancient Arts of the National Art Museum of Belarus (1980–2006), Nadezhda Vysotskaya is an author of more than 500 scientific catalogs, monographs, booklets, articles, programs and guidelines. As a researcher she is interested in fine and decorative arts of Belarus of the period from the 12th to 13th centuries, issues of the universal history of art, Orthodox and Catholic hagiography, iconography, art communication between Belarus and Russian and European cultures, issues of restoration and conservation, attribution, examination and evaluation of the monuments of the 12th–13th centuries.

The scientist developed the concept of 60 exhibitions of the Belarusian ancient art in Belarus, Russia, Poland, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, including "Radziwill’s Nesvizh collection" (Minsk, 2004). She was the head of 70 scientific expeditions in Belarus due to which 1 988 exhibits of the15th–20th centuries found their place in the collections of the state museums in the Republic of Belarus. She actively participated in many scientific conferences which were held in Belarus, Russia, Poland, Italy, France and other countries.

Nadezhda Vysotskaya is a teacher in higher education institutions of Belarus, Russia, Spain, Italy, and England.

Visitors of the exhibition can see the following books: Izucheniye pamyatnikov iskusstva Belarusi XIV–XVIII vekov (Studying works of art of Belarus of the 14th–18th centuries) (1994), Iskusstvo Belarusi XI–XVIII vekov (The Art of Belarus of the 11th–18th centuries) (1994–2000), albums Painting of Belarus of the 11th–18th centuries: fresco, icon, portrait (1980, co-authored with T. Karpovich), Plastic arts in Belarus of the 12th–18th centuries (1983), Arts and crafts in Belarus of the 12th–18th centuries (1984), numerous editions Ikonopis Belarusi XV–XVIII vekov (Iconography in Belarus of the 15th–18th centuries), Zhivopis barokko Belarusi XVI–XVIII vekov (The Belarusian Baroque Painting of the 16th–18th centuries) (2003), etc. Among the exhibits there are abstracts of her theses, collections of scientific conferences, articles, postcards, reproductions, as well as publications in which Nadezhda Vysotskaya is represented as an editor, a reviewer and a consultant.

One section of the exhibition will introduce visitors to reference books and publications that contain materials on the hero of the day and photographs from the family archive.

Document Restoration: Conservatism and Innovation – 2024

This is the largest professional forum, the main task of which is to exchange experience and improve the skills of restorers and curators of museum, library and archival collections from different countries.

Connoisseur of Belarusian Antiquities

April 18, 2024 marks the 210th anniversary of the birth of Yevstafiy Tyshkevich, a famous archaeologist, historian, ethnographer, local historian and museologist. His research has raised whole layers of the historical past, he was one of the first Belarusian authors of local lore. To mark the anniversary of the scientist, an exhibition "Connoisseur of Belarusian Antiquities" has been organized in the Book Museum of the National Library of Belarus.
