From 30 November to 31 January, an exhibition “Eternally the same, eternally new” devoted to the 80 anniversary of Russian composer and pianist Rodion Schedrin runs in the Music and Audio Materials Reading Room (room 305).


The owner of various ranks and awards R. Schedrin is one of the most known composers of the second half of the 20th century. Having a sharp modern musical language, he created the works which became available to wide audience of listeners.

 Among the composers of his generation Shedrin better than anyone else developed the Russian theme. His operas and ballets are almost based on the plots of the greatest Russian writers – N. Gogol, A. Chekhov, L. Tolstoy, V. Nabokov, N. Leskov. This composer is the author of numerous musical works among which there are choral Russian liturgy Embodied angel, concerts for an orchestra Mischievous Chastooshkas, Rings, Round Dances, Four Russian Songs, etc.

With a great mastery the composer added Russian elements into the musical language, reproducing poems, prays, chastooshkas, melodies of the shepherd, peals, sounds of balalaikas, gipsy songs, etc. At the same time all the aura of his compositions is typically modern: sharpness of dissonance sound interfaces, game of spaces of a musical stage, use of collage and innovative ways of performance on all instruments.

The visitors of the exhibition will get acquainted with musical collections of the composer’s works among which claviers and partitas for operas and ballets Not only love (1961), The Dead Souls (1977), The Seagull (1980), The Lady with a Dog (1985), The Fascinated Wanderer (2002), Carmen-suite (1967), Anna Karenina (1972). There are symphonic music, compositions for concerts including a membership with different instruments, orchestral suites, choral and vocal works, compositions for a piano, etc.

The exposition also includes audio files from the funds of the National Library of Belarus, as well as there are book about the life and creativity of the composer, and photos. The exhibition consists of more than 100 documents.

Students of the Belarusian State Academy of Music visited the National library

On April 18, the students of the Belarusian State Academy of Music visited the National Library of Belarus as part of the environmental education and upbringing program. They got acquainted with the thematic book exhibition "Water is a wonderful gift of Nature" dedicated to World Water Day. The exposition is presented in the documents of international organizations reading room (room 207 g).
