From April 14, 2008, to May 21, 2008, in the Documents of International Organizations Reading Room (second floor, room 207g) is open a book exhibition “Connecting-Link of the Epochs...” dedicated to the International Day for Monuments and Sites (April 18).
This Day was established in 1983 by the Assembly of the International Council on monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) and approved by the UNESCO General Conference.
The exhibition acquaints visitors with the world cultural and historical monuments, the ICOMOS activities. The UNESCO World Heritage List totals over 800 natural and cultural monuments which are the property of the whole humanity.
The exhibition reveals the international community team-work in the field of research and safekeeping of cultural values and monuments which are the essential part of material and spiritual heritage of the mankind. Besides that, the exhibition acquaints visitors with the activities in the field of safekeeping monuments and sites.
The exposition includes the following sections:
- monuments and sites as a part of cultural heritage;
- international agreements and conventions in the field of safekeeping of monuments and sites;
- international cooperation in the field of safekeeping of historical monuments;
- experience of different countries if the field of conservation and restoration of historical and architectural monuments;
- safekeeping of monuments and sites in the Republic of Belarus.
At the exhibition are displayed about 60 materials: books, brochures, periodicals, and mimeographed materials in Russian, French, and English languages.
We invite to the exhibition students, professors, scientists, State employees, members of non-government organizations, and everyone who is interested in protection, restoration, and safekeeping of cultural heritage.
