In the bicentenary of the composer’s birth, UNESCO declared 2019 the Year of Stanislaw Moniuszko.
The prominent son of Belarus created twenty operas and operettas, three ballets, five masses, two requiems and more than three hundred songs, including The Marching Song of Litvins (lyrics by Vladislav Syrakomlya). Stanislaw Moniuszko wrote the music for the Idyll (Sielanka) by Vincent Dunin-Marcinkiewicz, which is studied by all Belarusian scholars of literature, theater and music of the 19th century.
The composer was in constant communication with Belarusian musicians, wrote about them, contributed to the publication of their works, helped to get a musical education, arranged concerts and sent his works to Minsk.
The exhibition presents more than 50 documents: lifetime editions of Moniuszko; articles and books published in different years about the life and work of the composer; modern editions of musical works by Moniuszko including piano score and scores of operas, songs and romances (lyrics by Adam Mickiewicz, Jan Chachot and others), as well as conference proceedings and publications about the musical culture of Belarus in the 19th century.
The Polish-language edition Stanisław Moniuszko (Krakow, 1964) features an interesting selection of factual and illustrative material.
The trilingual collection of letters Listy zebrane = Collected letters = Sämtliche Briefe, prepared for publication by Vitold Rudinsky (Krakow, 1969), is most valuable for researchers of the composer’s biography. The 700-page publication includes more than 800 authentic materials that came out of the composer's pen. The exhibition also presents a Belarusian version of Stanislaw Moniuszko. Correspondence (Minsk, 2010), compiled and translated by Yazep Yanushkevich (scientific and musical advisor Viktor Skorobogatov).
The exhibition is located on the third floor (circular corridor) and will run from May 3 to November 25, 2019.
