The National Library of Belarus (3rd floor, circular corridor) hosts an exhibition of publications awarded by the 60th National Competition "The Art of the Books" from February 26 to May 31.

Every year, since 1960, the results of the work of Belarusian publishers are traditionally summed up at “The Art of the Book” competition. Its founder is the Ministry of Information of the Republic of Belarus. The competition is held with the aim of developing the art of the Belarusian book, increasing its competitiveness, artistic and printing culture. This is a kind of a performance report of publishers, artists, printers for the past year.

Both domestic and foreign publishing houses of various forms of ownership took part in the competition. Two hundred fourteen editions were submitted. At the preliminary stage, 95 books from 16 publishers were selected for consideration by a competent jury.

The highest award of the competition in the nomination "Triumph" was received by the publishing house "Piatrus Brouka Belarusian Encyclopaedia" for the book "Temple-Monument of the Belarusian Land", awarded the honorary symbol-symbol "Golden Folio" and an honorary diploma named after Francysk Skaryna. The winners of all other nominations were awarded with badges of honour and special diplomas. Among the favorites is the publishing house "Piatrus Brouka Belarusian Encyclopaedia" with 12 nominations and the Grand Prix of the anniversary competition.

The National Library of Belarus was awarded 1st degree diplomas for books published by the publishing house of the Library: “Understanding a Masterpiece. Brest Bible" by Mr Alies Susha (category "Science and Knowledge "), "Belarus Through the Eyes of a Bibliographer(category "Following the Paths of the Native Land"). Publications prepared by the National Library in cooperation with other publishing houses also received high awards. Thus, the winner's diploma, as well as the sign-symbol "Small Golden Tome" was received in the nomination "For contribution to the preservation of historical and cultural heritage" for the album edition Napoleon Orda (compiled by A. Susha; publishing house "Belarus"). A special diploma was received in the nomination “Belarus Remembers” for the facsimile edition of “Zhyrovichy Gospel of the 16th century” (scientific editor A. Susha; publishing house “Medyjal”).

Ms Sviatlana Ryzhykava was recognized as the best illustrator for the book "Uncle Rymus's Tales", the best designer – Ms Alena Buzhynskaja for the book "Mikalaj Kuzmich".

The National Library of Belarus sincerely congratulates the winners and awardees of the national prize "The Art of the Book" and invites everyone to check out the best publications of Belarus in 2020.

"Soldier's Fate": on the 100th anniversary of Vasil Bykov and the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from Nazi invaders

This year marks the 100th anniversary of the birth of the People's writer of Belarus, publicist and screenwriter Vasil Vladimirovich Bykov.
On this occasion, the National Library has prepared an anniversary exhibition "Soldier's fate", which highlights the great influence on the work of the Belarusian writer of his participation in the Great Patriotic War.

On April 8-12 the VII International Scientific and Practical Seminar "Document Restoration: Conservatism and Innovation - 2024" was held at the Russian State Library. This is the largest professional forum, the main task of which is to exchange experience and improve the skills of restorers and curators of museum, library and archival collections from different countries.
