"Belarus in the Great War 1914–1918", a book exhibition timed to the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War, opened on November 8 in the Book Museum.

On November 11, most European countries will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War. This war was one of the most horrific events in world history: 40 countries with a total population of over 1.5 billion people were brought into the war; about 10 million died and about 20 million were wounded and maimed. Contemporaries immediately called it the "Great War."

Belarus found itself on the front lines, and for our ancestors it was a terrible ordeal. At the same time, the war, which led to the collapse of the great empires, created new opportunities for the formation of the modern Belarusian statehood.

Visitors can see unique exhibits that tell about life on both sides of the front line: rare books, newspapers, magazines, postcards, letters of soldiers, as well as original stationery, printing equipment, personal belongings and sacred objects in wartime.

Thematic sections reflect the tragic and heroic events of the Great War on the territory of Belarus: hostilities at the beginning of the war, life at the front, in the evacuation and under occupation, revolutionary events, the signing of the Treaty of Brest-Litovsk.

The exhibition is organized by the National Library of Belarus in cooperation with the well-known researcher and collector, Vladimir Likhodedov (author of "In Search of the Lost" project). The exhibition will provide a fresh look at the events of the First World War through the prism of the written sources and print products of the time.

The exhibition runs until December 8, 2018
The closing date may be changed.

The opening hours of the exhibition correspond to the opening hours of the Book Museum.
Admission is by library card or by ticket of the library's social and cultural center. Information and tickets may be obtained at the registration desk.
