From March 1st to April 30th in periodicals reading room 106 is open a subject book exhibition “Belarus-2009: the most significant events of the year”.


The last year was marked with a number of crucial events that had concerned political, social, economic and cultural life of the Republic of Belarus. The offered exposition presents a set of materials from periodicals that reflect the most significant events of the year.

The creation of the Customs Union of Belarus, Russia and Kazakhstan became an epochal event and was covered widely in mass media. Articles in Belarusian journals “Belarus” (2009, № 12), “Belaruskaya Dumka” (2009, № 11), “Director” (2009, № 11) and others are dedicated to this important statement.

The population census in the Republic of Belarus had become one of the significant events in 2009. The Belarusian periodicals displayed at the exhibition “Management Problems” (2009, № 2), “The Belarusian Time” (2009, № 41), “Minskaya Prauda” (2009, № 151) and others cover this event.

Last year, the cultural life of the country was various and rich in events too. Publications in newspapers “Litaratura i Mastatstva” (“Literature and Art”) (2009, № 47) and “7 Days” (2009, № 51) are dedicated to the First congress of the Union of Writers of the Union State at which the united organization of writers of Belarus and Russia was established. Bedsides, materials displayed at the exhibition remind of the visit of Patriarch of Moscow and all Russia Kirill to Belarus. The opening of the restored National Academic Big Theatre of Opera and Ballet of the Republic of Belarus, holding of the 38th International contest “Miss Intercontinental” in Minsk had also become significant cultural events of the last year.

The exhibition presents about 40 publications.

"Soldier's Fate": on the 100th anniversary of Vasil Bykov and the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from Nazi invaders

This year marks the 100th anniversary of the birth of the People's writer of Belarus, publicist and screenwriter Vasil Vladimirovich Bykov.
On this occasion, the National Library has prepared an anniversary exhibition "Soldier's fate", which highlights the great influence on the work of the Belarusian writer of his participation in the Great Patriotic War.
